AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Two weeks into 2019, people are working hard to stay committed to their New Year's resolutions.

According to dietitian Allison Jones, there has been a huge increase in people looking to start good eating habits.

"The holidays are over," Jones stated. "All the sweets are out of the house everybody is on a track for the new year to start eating healthier and exercising more."

Market Street is helping people change their lifestyle choices by offering free food tours.

"So we have four different tours here on Market Street."Jones explained."Living healthy eating, healthy shopping tour, healthy shopping 101, easy diabetes shopping to learn about healthy eating for diabetes."

According to Jones, "Ready Chef Go" and "Plated Options" meals are ideal for families with busy lifestyles.

"We have a lot of people that don't have time to actually create or cook for an hour every single night so a lot of on the go options," Jones said.

Aside from healthy eating tips, the Eat Well Live Well Expo offered blood pressure and blood sugar testing.

Pharmacist Hannah Ramirez spoke on a few of the free testings that were offered.

"We are doing free blood pressure…free blood sugar and overall cholesterol checks," Ramirez stated.

Pharmacist Josh Hinojosa, explained the importance of people knowing these numbers.

"Problem is not many people in the U.S. test their levels enough," Hinojosa stated. "So, unfortunately, all these numbers will help tell you whether or not your heart is healthy."

Jones says that it is important to promote good eating habits early and one way to do that is to take your kids with you while grocery shopping.

Market Street allows kids to get one piece of fruit for free.

Health experts say if you do fall off track with your diet not to punish yourself by under eating, but simply to just get back on track when ready.
