Losing weight can be difficult for many and when it comes to losing belly fat, the struggle is even harder. Belly fat is the accumulation of visceral fat around the organs in your abdomen, which results in increased waist size. And when you have more fat around your waist and belly, just counting calories may not help.

You need to eat healthy, exercise regularly and ditch the unhealthy food to lose weight in a healthy manner. But in the rut of eating healthy, we often miss out on the simple foods that we have grown up eating and that are healthy for weight loss too.

One such food is onion. We use onions in almost every dish we cook but many of us are completely unaware of the potential that this humble vegetable has.

Onions are a good source of soluble fibre, which makes them a powerful prebiotic food. You can bake them, use them in soup, eat them raw or drink its juice – there are many ways onions can help you lose belly fat.

2.7 grams of fibre

It also contains a small amount of antioxidant quercetin, sulphur, iron, folate, calcium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorous. All these nutrients make onion one of the best vegetables to lose weight.

Onions for weight loss

Onion juice

You will need: 1 bulb of white onion and 3 cups of water

How to make
Peel off the skin of the onion, wash it and slice it properly. Now put the onions in a saucepan, add a cup of water and bring it to boil. Wait for 3-5 minutes and put the onions in a mixer. Pour two more cup of water, mix well and drink it.

Onion soup
You will need: 6 onions, 3 tomatoes, 1 cup cabbage, 4 cups vegetable/chicken stock, Minced garlic (2 cloves), grated ginger, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 2 teaspoon olive oil and salt to taste.

How to make
Remove the onion skin and chop them. Now take a pan and add olive oil to it. Add ginger, garlic and sauté it for 2 minutes. Now add the chopped onion and veggies. Stir and cook this for 30-40 seconds.Add black pepper and salt. Stir properly and cover. Cook for 15 minutes and have it hot.
